Al Gore’s "Our Choice" Apple App
Al Gore unveiled his digital version of Our Choice: A Plan to Solve the Climate Crisis for the iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch on Thursday. It is a richly interactive application that enhances the former vice president’s bestselling book from 2009.
USA Today reports that the app is visually appealing and uses a brand new digital publishing platform from Push Pop Press. Readers can read through the Our Choice’s 19 chapters with a swipe of their finger. The app also includes 250 full-screen images, which are geo-tagged so readers can look up where the picture was taken.
He included infographics, animations, and an hour’s worth of documentary footage highlighting historic severe weather conditions.
The app is extremely interactive. For example, in a chapter about harvesting wind power, users can blow into an iPad’s microphone to generate wind on a windmill.
Gore voiced audio commentary throughout the app, and added brand new material to include updated information, like the Japanese tsunami from earlier this year.
The app is available for an introductory promo price of $4.99 right now, and all profits will be donated to the Alliance for Climate Protection.
Gore sees apps as the media of the future and told USA Today that "it combines what we used to think of as books, movies, audio, animation, graphics, and makes them interactive. There’s nothing between you and the app…. All you need is your fingers."
