AT&T BlackBerry Bold 9700 Finally Gets Official BBOS 6.0
Though we love hearing news on upcoming top-of-the-line hardware, it can be just as rewarding to learn about older smartphones that seem blissfully unaware of their age as they continue to receive updates to the latest software. RIM's BlackBerry Bold 9700 was released all the way back in 2009, but that's not stopping the company from upgrading the smartphone to the modern BlackBerry OS 6.0.
Specifically, this release is version 6.0.0.526. BlackBerry users are no strangers to pre-release OS updates leaking early, and the 9700 poses no exception. Three weeks ago, BBOS 6.0.0.534 leaked for the Bold 9700, so today's update isn't even the most recent build available. Its merit, though, lies in it being the first official 6.0 update to come to the smartphone through the hands of AT&T, for those of you who just aren't comfortable working with unsupported leaked releases.
We could be getting close to the end of the line for the 9700. If the rumors we heard earlier today about RIM's plans for future OS revisions are true, there's a chance this Bold might make it to what would now be called BBOS 6.1, but even that's not a certainty.
If you're finally ready to bring your Bold 9700 into the world of BlackBerry OS 6.0, head on over to RIM's download site. The package is between around 160 and 180MB, depending on language options.
